Year-Round Destination Guide

#VisitSilverValley

Where is Silver Valley?

In the heart of the Bitterroot Mountains surrounded by the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, the Silver Valley was shaped by the Coeur d’Alene River and a rich mining history.
Our ideal location gives us access to 2 ski areas within 25 minutes of each other, thousands of acres of pristine nature surrounding us, and perfect day trips including 2 of the Northwest’s most impressive lakes.
With endless forests, rivers, and high-alpine lakes right in our backyard, the Silver Valley is North Idaho’s hidden gem. We are a year-round vacation destination and have too much to explore in one lifetime.
Hike, bike, camp, fish, hunt, ski, snowboard, snowshoe, paddleboard, and so much more. Experience peace, encounter wildlife, and savor our small town charm. You won’t find rush hours or traffic jams here (unless a herd of elk is crossing the street).

Visit the Silver Valley and spend more of your vacation doing what you came to do.

Summer

Summer doesn't get much better than huckleberries, long sun-filled days, and crystal clear water. Enjoy your favorite activities & discover some new favorites when you visit Silver Valley’s most radiant season.

Welcome to Bike City, USA.

Cyclists love the Silver Valley because of our range of trails. Get in the dirt at Silver Mountain’s Bike Park. Enjoy the beauty on the winding Route of the Hiawatha through 9 tunnels and over 7 sky-high trestle bridges. The spectacular 73-mile long paved Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes that runs through the Silver Valley is perfect for a family walk, bike ride, or jog.

We have the trails that you seek.

Whether you long to wander through conifer forests or you want to ascend to a scenic high-alpine lake, meadow, or peak, we have the trail for you. The Idaho Panhandle National Forest has plenty of trail options, local favorites include the Pulaski Tunnel Trail and Settler’s Grove. There are options for day trips, backpackers, visitors with disabilities, beginners, and experts alike.

Dramatic vistas & unique terrain.

There are 3 fantastic golf courses evenly dispersed through the Silver Valley. No matter your skill level, every golfer will find fun as our courses range from beginner to advanced. Enjoy the dramatic landscapes and unique designs. If you’re looking for greens that are both underrated and under-radared, then swing into the Silver Valley for some of your own swings.

A fisherman's dream.

With over 2,000 miles of rivers, streams, and a high concentration of lakes, we’re a fisherman’s dream. Cast into world-class fly fishing along the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River where our scenic riverside roads allow for drift boat drop points with convenient parking. Even if the fish don’t bite (which is unlikely), the Silver Valley’s serenity ensures a great day on the water.

Endless rugged terrain.

The Silver Valley is at the center of a web of U.S. Forest Service trails, providing thousands of miles of connected trails. Terrain varies from wide open roads to meandering paths. You’ll never have to take the same path twice. You can start in one town, explore the forest, and end up on the other end of the Valley. Plus, the beautiful scenery is unmatched. Follow rivers and streams up creeks to peaks.

Crystal clear alpine waters.

There’s no shortage of clean water ideal for recreation in the Silver Valley. Try paddleboarding at one of our lakes, floating down the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, kayaking near Cataldo, or swimming at the Avery Creek Picnic Area. Our sparkling, crystal clear water and beautiful, earth-toned river stones will leave you mesmerized and longing for more.

Winter

Whether you get your thrill blasting through powder, or you simply want to stay warm lapping our lazy river, everyone will find enjoyment here. The wintertime fun is as endless as our mountains’ dry, fluffy snow.

"The last true ski town in America."

We’re lucky to have 2 ski areas within 25 miles. Lookout Ski Pass and Silver Mountain Resort are both referred to as "the best-kept secret” around. There's rarely a line at their lifts, which means you spend more time making laps. Whether it’s day 1 or day 1,000 there’s terrain to test your limits. Most of our winter days are filled with snow, and our bluebird panoramic views are breathtaking.

Welcome to Snowmobile City, USA.

The I-90 Snowmobile Route connects you to over 1,000 miles of trails featuring world-class high alpine snowmobiling terrain. Both Wallace and Kellogg are full-service towns from this route, and Wallace’s "open streets" ordinance welcomes riders to the streets. Imagine waking up, walking outside, hopping on your snowmobile, and going. That daydream is possible here.

Cross-Country skiing doesn't get any better.

Nordic Skiing has never been more accessible than what you'll find in the Silver Valley. Our beloved Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes provides 73 miles of 10' wide path ideal for cross-country skiing. The 4th of July Nordic Ski Area has 12 miles of groomed trails open to the public. For current availability on Nordic skiing at our ski areas, please contact Silver Mountain or Lookout Pass directly.

Enjoy winter's beauty, peace, and stillness.

All the areas open to Cross-Country Skiing are also open to peaceful Snowshoe adventures, which means the Silver Valley is overflowing with fantastic winter trail options to explore. A popular foot-traffic-only destination is the Pulaski Tunnel Trail. You'll find some additional paths at both Silver Mountain and Lookout Pass depending on snow coverage and time of the year.

Endless smiles.

Thanks to Silver Mountain's Snow Tubing Hill there's always snow, hills, and tubes anytime you want a sledding thrill. The best part is there's a magic carpet so you don't have to hike up through the snow in between laps. What more could you ask for? Come tubing, have some fun the whole family will enjoy, and make some cherished memories.

Silver Rapids, north Idaho's largest Indoor Waterpark.

Maybe winter's not your thing and you’d rather stay warm and swim. Good thing Idaho’s largest indoor waterpark is at Silver Mountain Resort. It's always 84 degrees inside, and the water's always fine. Surf's endlessly up on the continuous Flow Rider Surf Wave. The winding slides can put a smile on anyone's face. If relaxation is what you need, then lap the lazy river or soak in a hot tub.
