The City of Mullan is a one of a kind experience. Incorporated in 1904, the small rural town has seen many changes. The days of a movie theatre, dress shop, bakery, two grocery stores, two drugstores and several cafes and saloons are definitely gone. This truth does not take away from the fact the Mullan is still, as some would say, God’s country! Beautiful scenery, a clear fishing stream running through the town, and as of 2013, Mullan boasts 692 inhabitants. Restaurants come and go, the local gas station also serves as a neighborhood grocery stop and the school system keeps the children well educated while the local post office often times is the place to greet neighbors and friends. Mullan, at an elevation of 3278 feet, is only six miles from the best snow in Idaho. Lookout Ski Resort, at an elevation of 5650 feet, boasts 1150 vertical feet and 540 acres with 34 runs. The updated ski lodge and rental shop are well equipped with food, beverage and ski equipment. Mullan is also the beginning trailhead for the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s 69 mile biking trail enjoyed by visitors every year. Just over the Montana border you are only minutes to the Hiawatha Trail, an exhilarating experience riding the railroad grade through tunnels and over trestles. An experience you won’t want to miss. Easy exits from I-90, don’t just pass by this beautiful little town.
